Default Extreme n00b here, help with Adobe 6.5 and Sony TRV250

I've scoured these forums along with all of google and can't find an answer, which makes me think I'm missing something very obvious, but after hours of fiddling I'm still missing it, so here I am. I'm connecting my Sony TRV250 via USB cable to my computer, and using Adobe Premier 6.5 to try and capture the video. Well, I can capture the video just fine (aside from dropped frames), but the audio never seems to come through. The settings seem to be right, ti says it's capturing at 44kHz, Uncompressed, Stereo, but anytime I play the .avi file, there's no sound.

I don't think it's a problem with the camera, because I'm able to use Windows Movie Maker (of all things) and it grabs the audio just fine. (it lists the audio as "USB audio device" under the record settings).

If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it. I'd like to be able to use some of the more advanced features in Premier, but if I can't even figure out how to get the sound to work I might be way out of my league! [/i]

    Three words:

    Firewire
    Firewire
    Firewire.

If your camera has a firewire (also known as i-link and ieee1394) then use that! USB(2) is horrible for video capture. If you don't have a firewire card/connector in your PC, get one. You can pick up PCI cards for desktops for about 15 (maybe less) and a PCMCIA card fora notebnook at somewhere between 20 and 30.

    You *need* firewire.

I think Mike should stop beating around the bush.

    Go Firewire!

COMPAQ something or other with 500Gb Boot Disk, 1Tb external Firewire Disk, 4Gb Memory and a super duper sound card, 19" TFT Monitor etc etc etc
    Sony TRV33e : Sony TRV310e : Canon XM2
Sony Vegas Studio editions to v11

Remember, there is always more to learn than there is to teach.
