Unhappy Premier Pro CS3 audio problems

I have been trying to capture from a DV tape shot on a Canon A1 and the Premeier Pro CS3 does capture video and audio but will not play audio back???

Please help. I have tried recapturing, reinstalling software , using differnt camcorders to play the tape and capture form. It is a Premier Pro problem. How can I sort this out? In fact when I drag the clip into the source monitor - there is no sound either although the audio tracks are being recorded on the time line.

This is crucial for my work - any help would be appreciated.

when you capture, and drag the clip onto the timeline, can you see any audio waveforms in the audio tracks?

Yes the wave form is visible and I can hear the sound clearly on the camcorder.

I have the same problem when my camera is still connected to the computer.

Try turning off your camera before you watch whatever you've captured

if the waveform is visible on the timeline, there must be something wrong wiht the auou can premiere. import an audio file into premiere and see if you can hear anything once it's on the timeline. if not reset all of your preferences and try again, if you still can't hear anything post back, actually post back anyway and say whats happening.

Have tried various things- tried capturing only audio and only one clip out of many that I captured would play back audio although all clips showed a wave pattern in the audio time line.

    This become even more confusing.

    Any other recommendations??

    This is a strange one,

I havent had any audio problems in Premier Pro.

Try looking at your settings and check that your audio output is set to your computer rather than "Play via firewire", i used to have a video problem like that when i wanted to preview my work on an external monitor and it turned out to be a little checkbox in the settings.
