Default hear playback live whilst recording.

i've been using vegas video off and on for years, never had this problem.

Nothings changed, same comp same program. vegas 4 ( i know, really old)

i plugged in my headphones into the microphone jack by accident took it straight out but, i just wanted to mention that in case that's the problem.

plugged mike in it's this tiny thing i love, found it in a skip, its always worked, and is still working for sound recorder and anything else.

but when i tried to record a new track it is playing it back live! but with a millisecond delay other wise i wouldn't mind, but that means i can't sing or play guitar properly. it doesn't really sound right either. it's ok but, i think it picks up the echo, i don't understand really.

i have searched for previous answers but i couldn't find anything, i didnt really know what technical terms to use...

have i made some kind of short circuit thingymegig but, yet it still works for sound recorder ( i have checked its definately working ) or...
is there something i can click on or off in vegas? i do remember the first time my friend introduced me to vegas he plugged it into an amp and we played it out loud then (live) to listen whilst we played - i remember he never worked out how to do that again! but now i want the opposite!

can you fix it for me jim?
thankyou very much for your time XXX

    Default more info

hi, i don't know if i'm going to get a response,, it is a bit odd..

i just found out that it's only like that on vegas video, the microphones record fine, i was only trying them in vegas, but when i use windows recorder and playback on normal thing like vlc it sounds fine....so i guess i just have to re install vegas video...i must have deleted an important file or something, don't know how tho.

unless anyone has any other idea?

i'm sort of on my own in this whole forum thing.
