Just google search and you will find tools such as Moyea MTS Converter for Mac, Pavtube MTS Converter for Mac.
For windows you can use Tipard MTS Converter.

    They are all good tools.

By the way, I think when choosing an appropriate program for ourselves, we should consider not only its quality, functions, but also its after-sale service.
So if you have any other question, you can contact their support center easily and get problems solved finally.

Have you updated to the latest version of your program, Vegas was slow to adapt there programs to work with AVCHD high profile 4.1 that Canon use for there video capture, if you have already got the latest software then it's as Mark says it should edit your MTS files.

A good freeware converter is Kayote Soft Video Converter it does however only do progressive scan but this can be a virtue, it overcomes problems with interlace jitter that you can get if you try converting for DVD from AVCHD with a program that defaults to lower field first like my Corel Video Studio Pro X3 does.

I use a Mac, and found ClipWrap to be excellent at essentially re-wrapping my .MTS files to whichever file format I desire. Not 100% sure if it is available for PC as well, and it costs $49.99, but if you are willing to spend in order to make the problem go away as I was, I'd recommend it.
