    Default HD Camcorder Choice?

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new camera for around the £600 mark (don't really want to go over, but will by a little if I think it's justified).

    What features I want:
    Full HD
    SD card storage

    What I want it for:
    Amateur filmography
Holiday documentation, and general messing around

I've mostly been looking at the Canon HF 200, which seems pretty sweet for the price. However, I don't like the fact manual focus has to be done via the screen controls rather than a twist dial. I was hoping people could suggest some suitable alternatives that have this feature (or not).
    Cheers!

You won't get manual focus on a dial or lens ring for £600. You will get a manual focus ring on a Panasonic HDC TM300 but it's nearer £1000. The Canon HV-30 which uses tapes has a control dial on the side panel that can be assigned the job of manual focus. The HF 200 is a good cam but as you say it falls at the last hurdle by not having any dial or ring to turn, using a joystick isn't practical.
