Thread: Sony Vegas S 9 Pro Pack+ Question

  1. #1

Default Sony Vegas S 9 Pro Pack+ Question

Amazon has the SVS 9 Pro pack on sale and it does not say if its OEM nor retail but it show the SVS 9 package so it must be the retail Package and hopefully has the users guise in the box. E- Mail Amazon and they replied that they do not know, that is some BS on thier part, I thik.

What does some member of the forum think???? FULL Package.

    Thanks for your responses

I'd expect it to be retail.
The users guide isn't the full manual anyway which is much more detailed and avaliable for download (and presumably on the DVD)
If, like me, you prefer a paper version, I, along with many others, recommend Vegas Editing Workshopy by Douglas Spotted Eagle. But bear in mind you'll want to get an idea of the basics first - its not a total beginners book.

The interactive tutorials (Help menu) are a good start and the online help is better than with most software.

You might well be better purchasing the download version direct from Sony...

..there doesn't appear to be much of anything in the boxed version.

Thanks for the replies, and the download software link, that is something to think about but the download cost a 20-25% more from Sony and if the PC crashes, will be stuck.

The software has a lot of gadgets for the money and seems well worth buying and by the time that I somewhat learn it the new one will be out which should be around the corner if non Sony sites are selling at a heck of a lower price.

About a month ago i bought this same software from Amazon and the one i bought was/is the retail version (it was something like $99)... The box, multiple CD's, basic instruction pamphlets (though you'll get far better info here...).

I'm using it now in fact to begin the transfer of my miniDV tapes to HDD and so far it's soooooo easy to use. At $99 it was a great deal. For the $75 on-sale price it's an absolute steal.

For programs i pay for (unlike Java, Adobe Reader, etc), i've pretty much moved away from download only situations. I like having the physical CD/DVD on-site for those just-in-case moments.

I see we're talking about different things here....

I'm talking about Sony Vegas Pro 9 (definitely not for sale at $75) and you're talking about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack....

If it's cheaper to buy from Amazon or whoever - then sure - go that way.
You'll want to register the software with Sony. This will associate your serial number(s) with the account you set up with Sony.

Then you can download the latest point version (eg 9.x) for free whenever you like and Sony keeps track of your serial numbers so if your PC does ever go bang you never need use the CD again.

You'll also find it's probably cheaper to upgrade to Pro than if you'd bought Pro in the first place (I've not checked prices recently, but another member of this forum recently saved nearly £100 by buying Movie Studio and then upgrading)

Of course you don't need to upgrade. VMS does 90% of what most of us need to do most of the time.

That is what I intend do, not making any Hollywood movies, just Grandkids, etc.
