Thread: What is a fair price for my Xl1s and other bits?

Smile What is a fair price for my Xl1s and other bits?

I'm looking to sell my video equipment as I have recently had a baby(or rather my wife has!), an so spare time to make films has evaporated a bit!

It's been a while since I bought anything relating to this and this am a bit out of touch as to what things are worth. I have:

a canon Xl1s, with extra battery (high capacity - double normal battery life), a fluid head tripod with carry bag (it's a Vinten - very nice, stable and smooth pan/tilt - cost £500+), flight case for the camera, all leads, lens and lens bag, remote control, etc. Also, there is a panasonic, iirc, minidisc recorder.

Next up is a dual 1.7Ghz Xeon workstation (3d Boxx-S2), with 4gb of RAMBUS memory (fast and stable), RAID controller with two 72gb fast scsi drives (currently acting as two drives, but can be striped or mirrored), Audigy soundcard with drive-bay breakout box (optical input/output, Midi, mini xlr, etc), Geforce 5200 128mb graphics card (spare Wildcat 5110 OpenGL workstation class 144mb card available), full licensed versions of after effects, Premiere, photoshop, etc. There is plenty of room in the case for IDE hard-drives, etc and this machine makes for a great video or 3d workstation as the case is solid, well cooled and the astem us rock-solid. This cost over £10,000 new and can still keep up with the newer machines. I'm only selling this as I have Macs and SGI hardware at home and am running out of room!

Unfortunately, the 20" TFT panel got broken when we moved house, so you'd need a monitor - Vga or Dvi are supported.

Having looked around a bit, I'd think that £2k was reasonable, but am looking for offers and advice - I'm not desperate to sell, but appreciate I won't get the £15k this lot cost when new!

I'm based just outside Bedford, but can arrange pickup from my parents' house just outside Vroyson or delivery at cost if required.

    Cheers,

    Chance

Selling your camera just as a baby arrives? Surely you will regret that ??

None of my business clearly but i would want to film my progeny - lots.

Not really - i've got a lovely little panasonic handycam (nv-mx1400 for those who wish to know), along with Mac laptops, iMac, Powermac and some SGI machines I can edit on, etc. The XL1s and the Xeon workstation are both relics from a time I was doing video and 3d work as my daily job, so are surplus to requirements!

    I will shut up then.

As for price - it's a volatile market what with recession and people changing to hdv.

I would check some finished auctions on e bay.

    Hi
Just wondering if you would consider selling the camera seperate and if so how much would you be looking for?
    Thanks

I'd want to sell the camera, accessories, case and tripod as a single lot - given what I've seen on eBay lately, I think that £1000 is a reasonable amount. To be honest, I am thinking that £1500 or thereabouts for everything is probably about right, if a little under-priced, as I've seen XL1s on their own go for £800-£1000 in the last month and the tripod is worth £500, etc....

So, in short, I really would prefer to sell everything in one lot, but I am open to suggestions - drop me a line on chance.hooper@gmail.com

it seems that the site ate my last response...ho hum!

The short answer is that, no, I wouldn't look to sell the camera on its own - I would prefer to sell either as a complete lot or possibl as camera, tripod and accessories without the workstation. Given that eBay is selling the cameras for roughly £1k a piece without a case or tripod, etc, I think that I'd look for £1500 for the camera, tripod (which cost over £500 and is immaculate), case and other bits and pieces. The reason I am being picky is that I don't have to sell this stuff, so I am looking to a) make it an attractive package that is of ue to the buyer, but also b) make my life easier in the selling side of things - I don't want to have people pick out the choice parts of the collection and leave me with lots of odds and ends to try to shift or throw out because I have no use for them. I hope that you can understand my point and that I don't come across as being unhelpful!

Hello, I'm interested in the equipment you have to sell. Just out of interest, would you be planning to put it on ebay for the security or would you accept a private sale? Many thanks

I was going to put it on eBay, but am happy to sell via paypal - would obviously wait for payment before shipping/ collection, though. Do you want all of it, or are you just the camera, tripod and parts? Let me know and we'll work something out, I'm sure!

Hi, I'd be after the camera and tripod with accessories please. How do we go about the sale? If it's not against forum policy, could we perhaps exchange details over the phone?
