    Unhappy DVD ripping/converting quality

I've been editing reels in my spare time and pulling video off of DVDs using ImToo DVD ripper. It gets the job done, but I'm not satisfied with the quality of the video after the rip. I've played around with some of the advanced settings to see if I can get it to come out any better, but no major improvements. Is there a preferable format I should be converting to? Am I merely limited by the quality of my software? Is this just an inevitable result of pulling from DVD? I'm kind of new to the process, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can adjust the video resolution of the parameter setting.

  3. Default

You can set the bit rate to a higher one, which should result in a better quality.

I usually rip my dvd to avi file and the quality comes out not so bad. What format you rip your dvd to?

Or just try another dvd ripper, you can get one here.

If you have to convert them you might not be using a high enough bit rate, the bit rate of mini DV avi is 3.6MB/Sec. at 720x576 for PAL which gives you an idea of the sort of bit rate you might have to use.
Most editing programs will use the VOB files straight off a DVD you might have to rename them .mpg and if you use a program with smart render you will loose no quality at all, programs I know have smart render are Womble MPEG Video Wizard and Corel Video Studio Pro X2, and I'm sure there are many more, I would advise against converting if you want to keep the original quality, other wise convert to avi.
    Good luck
