Unhappy Polaroid HD Video (avi) opens B&W in Premier Elements

My Polaroid DVC-00725F HD digital camcorder uses .avi files, but when I try to open them in Premier Elements 7 I get a greyish image with pink and pale green stripes top to bottom. They play nicely in Win Media Player.

Any way to solve this? I converted one clip into a MPEG 1 clip with the ARCsoft progam that came with the camera and I could then open it, but the quality was terrible. There was no MPEG 2 option.

I am so eager to use Premier Elements that I am totally frustrated.

Thanks for any and all help.

These cameras often use a unuasual codec - try installing ' nimo coedc pack ' - google it.

Dont expect true HDV quality - it's a budget camera.

you can convert it with vlc, i have gone vlc crazy lately.

just open up vlc, goto media-->Convert/Save-->Select the file-->and then in the next window pcheck the box next to file, goto where you want to save it, enter a file name, click save-->experement with the different profiles of choose custom and play about with the settings-->click save

    Default Thanks, but . .

That codecs pack is no longer supported because it is so out of date, from what I see. I'll look into vlc and see if it helps. I've already tried several other codecs packs with no luck.

Thanks for the input from both of you.
