    Angry stupid buyer-help please

I went to get a new laptop the other day to do some editing while i was traveling. Long story short, i had one in mind but found an HP with way better specs for the same price. In my excitement i bought the thing only to realize when i got home that i didn't check to see if it had a firewire connection. I don't know how i ended up doing that... so now i have this beautiful new laptop, with no firewire and no pcmia slot. What it does have is usb, hdmi and eSATA. I am using a Sony HVR-V1. Any suggestions on how to get the video onto the computer??????????? Im mostly capturing SD, however have needed to do one or 2 projects in HD...

No PCMCIA slot on a HP, are you 100% sure about that, seems very strange. Well you do have a HDMI, does your camcorder have HDMI output aswell, if it does then just get a cable to connect one to the other. Will the HP be able to cope with the HD video?

the hdmi on the laptop is likely to be an output and not an input.

what slot are there on the laptop?

Good point about the HDMI being output rather than input. Not many options left.

most firewire to usb cables don't work at all...if you find one that does...let us know....I'm surprised that in the absence of a pcmcia slot it doeent have the new express card slot...in which case you can get a plug in firewire adaptor....I've just bought a toshiba nb 100 net book...3 usb...no card slots at all....so no good for firewire at all in case anyone else rushes out for one.
