    Is there a way to stretch the audio event without changing the pitch in vegas?

    Yes, most definitely. Used it often.

    Right Click on Audio Event | select Properties | select Time stretch / pitch shift Classic | select Stretch Attributes ( . . and try the A07, Speech 1 template) . . then stretch the Audio.
