Thread: Capture card vs analog to digital converter

  1. Default Capture card vs analog to digital converter

I'm kind of confused when it comes to capturing/importing old analog material. I wanted to use my DV camera to pass through, but the model I have happens to be one where that feature was deleted. My question is, do I need an analog to digital converter to get my old VHS & HI-8 tapes to my computer, or does my capture card do the same thing as a A-D converter? My card has S-video in, composite in, firewire in & stereo inputs. I just want to make sure before I start the long process of capturiing all these hours of analog material that my card will do the job and I don't have to invest in a converter.

As long as your VCR has S-Video your capture card will work fine.. if not you'll need the RCA cables your capture card should have those as well
