Thread: Recording the TimeStamp to Video

  1. #1

Default Recording the TimeStamp to Video

I need some capture software that will do the following:

    I have a Canon GL1 DV camcorder.
I would like to record to a laptop without using the DV tapes.
I would like to record via Firewire cable.
The end product must be in MPEG-1 format.
I must have time & date stamped onto the video (can be time & date from camcorder or from laptop, but must be the time/date that video was originally taken.)

If I need multiple software to do this, please let me know what all I would need. Thanks.

CP - I think the op means live - like for a sec cam or something.

If I am right then just turn on the date stamp on the camera - most can do this.

Hmm... I tried Nero Vision 4 and it had no Time/Date stamp in it that I could find. I have found out about Enosoft DV Processor that I will try tonight. If those don't work, I will try Vegas or Premier afterwards. Thanks.

yeah, I knew you wouldn't like nero.. Its easy in vegas.. Like mark said you can turn it on in camera. But keep in mind its on the tape. In the SW you can turn it before you render out

I note some complicated advice given to you for same q on another board - but I surely adding the stamp with the cameras function would be best... did I miss something ?

    Mark,
I display the date/time on the camcorder and see it just fine. I have firewire out from camcorder (I'm not recording onto the DV Tapes) and stream it to the laptop. In the laptop, it shows the video just fine, but there is not date/time stamp. I capture the video on the laptop and play it back (still no timestamping displayed).

The Date/Time does not transfer from the camcorder to the laptop, even though it's displayed onscreen of the camcorder. It doesn't display onscreen on the laptop.

I do not know how to set the camera's function any other way (e.g. transfer time/date through firewire).

Hmm - I see - so the date stamp isnt on the camera feed - only the tape - I get it now - and I learned something today.

Time/ date stamps are of little use in any evidence situation ( i am guessing sec cam ) as thay can easily be manipulated.

    Legal videotaping of depositions...

Some states require date/time stamping. Others do not.
