Thread: Direct Stream Copy on Vegas

Default Direct Stream Copy on Vegas

On Vegas MS Platinum I have noticed that when I cut out portions of an AVI then create a new movie Vegas re-renders the file and the product is very fuzzy. I'm using the Canopus DV codect which should have pretty independant frames. I went onto the Creative Cow Forums and asked if there was a program that will just cut out the frames I don't want without altering in any way the frames I want to keep. I found out that VirtualDub will do it with a setting called "Direct Stream Copy"

It worked. Screen shots from the edited movie were absolutely identical to the original.

What I would like to know is if Vegas MS Platinum has this capability. I would even be willing to upgrade to Vegas Pro or use a completely different product.

Yes Vegas 7 and 8 Pro has this feature, its called Smart Rendering, as long as all the settings are the same as the source media it will render only the detected changes. DVDA 4 and 4,5 pro will also do this. I dont know if platnum has it or not
