    Default What Camera

I am looking for a resonable quality production camera
My chooses are Canon XL1 Sony Pd 150 Sony Pd 170.
The 170 is the obvious being new. the 150 I can pickup X hire for a reasable price but the XL1 is a tradin and is bargain priced.

Ive been told to stick with sony an because of a few facts (repacement parts serviceing ease to use etc).

But the canon is such a great price.

    Any advice would be apreciated.

Also apon reading ths specs for the XL1 it states that the DV terminal is Via a special 4 pin connecter Based on IEEE 1394 does this mean that its not fully fire wire compatable as ths sony is.????

Also I am in Australlia so the cameras are PAL (if that makes any difference).

I have been reliably informed by my friendly camera shop that if you buiy a canon you are in fact buying a camera that has Sony works as Sony make the guts for canon. I have a canon myself the MV5I MC and find that it is a very good machine. It has DVin/out Firewire. Also Analogue in/out so can be used to transfer your old analogue video to your computer for rediting etc.

I would think so as Sony are making the guts for Canon Cameras. Its a bit like Rolls Royce making the engines for cars other the Rolls. That was the info that I got from a friend who is in the camera repair business.

Sorry I think I miss read your question. I have checked up on the canon site and I find that the MV650i has DV in and out but NO analogue in, so it canot be used directly to convert analogue to digital video.
