Default Mask Path with After Effects CS3

    Hey guys,

    I'm following this tutorial:
Motion Graphics Lab - Free Glowing Line Tutorial

So, basicly I do as the tutorial says and create a shape with the pen tool and then double click "M" to see the mask options but as soon as I click with the pen tool, I get this new layer called "Shape Layer 1" (this doesn't happen on the tutorial, I believe it's CS2).

I've spent hours trying to connect the text to a mask path but when I go to the Text Layer's Path Options, there's only "None" on the dropdown box.

How can I turn my shape made with pen tool into a mask path, which I can select as the Text Layer's Path?

If I understand what you're asking properly, change to the selection tool to grab the nodes of the existing mask. If you keep the pen tool selected the app thinks you are making more masks.

I found out the problem, I didn't have the Text Layer selected when I clicked the pen tool so it didn't put the mask on the layer..
