Default Need Help with Hardware for Video Editing

    Hi,

I have several mini-dv tapes which I wanted to try to transfer to my computer and then edit and burn as DVD. I have never successfully transfer a good video file to the computer. I tried using virtualdub to transfer the video, but the video quality is really bad. Also, I cannot choose the 720 x 480 resolution. The highest resolution I can choose is the 640 x 480 one.

Am I missing any hardware? I read about firewire or i.link cable, are they a must for better transfer? I only have the usb provided by the camcorder (Sony DCR-PC105).

    Here is my computer specs:

    Intel Quad Core Q9550
    Asus P5Q3 Deluxe WIFI
    LG 22X DVDRW SATA OEM
XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI
    Corsair 4096MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz
Creative Labs Sound BLaster X-FI Gamer
    Corsair TX650W 650W Power Supply

Please let me know if I should get certain hardware. Any recommendation and suggestion are highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for the help.

You need a video editor - v dub is not one.

Before I can edit the video, I need to transfer it to my computer. I am having problem with a good transfer quality. I did also trying using Magix Movie Editor, but I received the same result. A grainy, bad color result. But the video looks fabulous when viewed through TV.

Capruteing with a decent editor is a cinch and rarely torublesome.

Maybe your capture are poor - but things always look better on TV....

You need a firewire card and some video editin software, even if it windows movie maker, and from withing your chosen editing software capture from there using your firewire card.

Stop using USB and use Firewire instead.
