Default Just got the Sony SR12

    Thing is wonderful sweetness.

I have nothing to compare it too but when I watch it on the HD tv it looks like I'm looking through a freakin window!

Its weird, when I zoom it, its actually more clear then my own eyes! This thing is more clear than reality!

When you say you watch it on tv, i presume you mean when the camera is plugged directly into the tv.
The trick you have to perform now is getting that high def footage on to a dvd as standard def footage, and still get almost as good quality.

Plenty of people put down AVCHD saying it's hard to work with, truth is if you've got a powerful enough pc and good enough editing program it's no problem.

My quad core pc and sony vegas power through avchd rendering no problem at all.

Yes that pc will do, no problem, those i7,s are meant to be awsome.
Which copy of vegas will you get ?
I presume you know you can get a free trial first.

I just looked at the pc specs again, 64bit.
I'm not sure if the cheaper versions of vegas will work with 64bit os, i know vegas pro 8 does, it's version 8.1.

I'm going straight for the Vegas Pro 8. Might be a steep learning curve but whatever. You do it and it gets done. Just need time to practice, and time I have.

So you don't think I need to upgrade my ram to 16 gigs?

    16g ram !!! holy sh*t no need.
I use an off the shelf quad core, q6600 4gb ram, 32 bit, and it plows through avchd and EX1 footage together on the same timeline no problem.
The pc you're getting, christ you won't even have time to put the kettle on during rendering.

Seriously though, you made the right choice with vegas, most of the people having trouble with avchd seem to be using something other than vegas.

As far as the steep learning curve, it's not that steep with vegas, and if you want tutorials then there's plenty out there. When i first wanted vegas help i went straight onto youtube.
Also, one of the mods on this site MarkW is a proper vegas nut, i call him Mr Vegas, he is a bit of a whizz on vegas,(but i'm catching him up).

You made the right choice going for vegas pro.

    Acid ?
Acid is for music, you'll have a hard job making movies with that.
You want sony vegas, not sony acid.
