Default Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro is it right for me?

I'm looking for software that I can create profesional looking (HD)videos of equipment for trade shows and sales DVD's. As well as software that will allow me to output in a format for e-mailing. Finally I'll be useing it for personal use as well. the reviews I have read are all over the place. Whats the consenses here?

I've used older pinnical software but at lest the version I had was prone to locking up.

    your help is greatly appriciated

I have not used pinnacle but from posts it does appear many people find it buggy.

I use vegas and find it very stable.

You'll find many people had that problem with Pinnacle Studio and stability became their no. 1 desire. Most moved to Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I was one of them and have no regrets (Switched to Pro after 6 months as I realised the product was so good I wasn't likely to want Premiere/Avid or whatever)
OTOH many people have no problem with Pinnacle. I have a friend on a later version (11) on a DEDICATED PC and he's never ghad a problem with it.

Did either of you two have install issues with Vegas software?

Not I. I've installed Movie Studio 6 on XP Pro SP2, Vegas 7 on XP Pro SP2 and Vegas Pro 8 on XP Pro SP2 and on SP3.
Are you using a boxed version, a download from the Sony site or (ahem) some other source?

Why not download the free trial and give it a go?

I bought the box set and found it sucked big time. It will only work with wma's even though it CLAIMS to work with all major file types. It is the worst software I ever tried to use and customer support is non-existent.

Thank you for your useful post.
Have you ever considered that, given the millions of people who successfully use Vega worldwide and Vegas's reputation for being particularly format agnostic, the problem might lie with your system or the user?
And I've fund their customer support very helpful in the past.

I too have found their customer support helpful. I had no problems installing Platinum 9 on win 7. It came with DVD Architect 4.5 (no problem) and Soundforge 9 ( worked but wouldn't register) Sony help soon sorted me an activation code.

For the price, the Sony software is probably the best around. (I also tried Pinnacle and Elements)

I have six honest, serving men. They taught me all I knew.
