Thread: Daisy Chaining camera.

  1. Default Daisy Chaining camera.

Just got a WD terabyte external Hard Drive. The box says it supports daisy-chaining of other firewire devices and I see where I would plug the other device in. So I tried it out (plugging one of my camcorders into the 2nd firewire port on the HD and plugged in the HD. My mac registered the HD fine, but not the camera. It recognizes the camera when it is plugged directly into the firewire port on the mac.
    2 questions:
    1. Anyone do this before and get it to work? Am I missing something? Any ideas?
    2. If I do get it to work, is it a good idea (because my mac only has one firewire port and a small internal hard drive) to daisy-chain the camera to the HD? or should I capture directly to my internal hard drive and move footage to the external HD after the capture?

Even though daisy chaning is in the firewire specifications, it is not possible to daisy chain any video camera because of the bandwidth needed.

You can try, it wont work.

Yea - fire wire can support chaining vut it doesnt have to. It is really aimed at helping to buld disc arrays i guess.

I think so although it would be
    software
raids it would be good for consumers as they can see the disk are
    actually
    liked together i suppose
