  1. Default PLEASE HELP........Serious problem due to lost footage

    Hi,

This weekend I filmed a wedding and upon reviewing the footage, I have found that one of the tapes has a serious problem as none of it recorded properly. The tape image only appears when fast forwarding in playback and even then the image seems distorted and corrupted. The rest of the tapes seem to playback perfectly OK, but for some reason this tape does not.

The camera I used was a Sony Z1

Please can somebody advise me as to what may have happened and what I can do to resolve it.

    Thank you very much

Sounds like one of those corrupt tapes one gets from time to time. I always test tapes prior to use (just with five to ten seconds recorded and reviewed) after being caught out like this once before.

In practical terms - you're probably screwed to be honest. I hope it wasn't one of the crucial ones!

This happened to me a few years ago, on the ceremony tape too. Luckily we had a second cam running, but these were my main cam shots and I know what a horrible feeling it is.
The same colour draining feeling you get when you've been working a really difficult project for 20 minutes without saving and it crashes. You stare and stare at the screen in disbelief, but it don't come right.

Have you tried playing this tape through the original cam and the same effect?

If it's still crepe, all you can do is make as good an edit as you can with what you've got. If it's blindingly obvious a significant section is missing, be honest with your client.
I was and thankfully, they understood. I fired a few extra copies in and they booked us for their next daughters wedding too.

I had my duff tape analysed at the BBC machine room and it was, as Andy says, just a rogue tape, as all others were ok.

After my 'issue' I purchased 2 firestores as hard back up and haven't looked back. More than paid for themselves in saved capture time.
Best of luck with the edit.
My opinions are just that . . . Mine. It's not personal, but is based on my emotional and professional reaction to requested critique. If you choose to ignore constructive comments, I'll just assume you're a vanity poster and not posting to improve your filming and editing skills.

Ooohhh... Luxury! If only my finances stretched that far. Last night my clutch failed. 600 that'd be far better spent on gear....

I feel your pain Andy, and if I saw a firestore in the pound shop I would have one in a flash - filming zen like calm would descend - a tape copy and a drive copy - that must be cool.

Ho hum... Focus Enhancement DR-DV5000 Firestore DTE recorder, PAL on eBay, also, Recorders Players, Professional Video Equipment, Cameras Photo (end time 19-Feb-09 07:16:50 GMT)

And it hasnt even got a drive.
