    Default system requirements question

new to this forum and video editing. I am looking into purchasing software but have a general question about display adapters. My PC has integrated video graphics with up to 64 MB of allocated memory. I dont know if this is sufficient to support any software out there or if I am going to need to add a video card. any help/adivice is appreciated. Thanks.

    Good question - not sure.

As a rule the gfx card is irrlevant - very powerfull ones are just not needed. Mine was thirty quid.
BUT on board gfx takes cpu cycles I think and you dont want that.

I suggest a budget card just in case - unless another forum member posts something more helpfull.

if your current graphics offering really only has 64Mb of ram then you shoudl deffo upgrade to a budget graphics card.

As Mark suggested, you only need to spend at most about 30 UKP to get somethign more than usable. Vista will gobble up the 64Mb for sure on it;s own.

As a rule video editting doesn't use the graphics card but more and more plugins are starting to use the GPU to help things along.

My thought would be that is depends on the video editing software you are using.

Vegas, for example, uses processor cycles to render--the better the processor, the faster the rendering.

PowerDirector7, for example, uses the GPU and CUDA technology to render even faster, which requires an 8xxx series or newer nVidia card.
