Default How to capture clips from DVD on PC?

    Hi all,

I want to capture short movie clips from DVDs whilst watching them on my laptop (funniest moments from Family Guy, etc).

I only need them to be small in size and short in length, but of reasonable quality.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Note - this is likely to be civil / criminal breach of copyright.

Get a prog called dvd decrypter - decrypt and copy the dvd to h drive. Load into a video editor, edit clips.
    Decrypting can take hours.

Surely there must be an easier way...

I have never come across an app that will allow easy grabs from protected dvds.

    What about from unprotected DVDs?

The actual video content on a DVD is encased in a file structure that conforms to the DVD standard. This allows DVDs to be universally recognized by software and players.

The part of the structure you are interested in are the .vob files. The .vob file are a wrapper around the underlying MPEG2 files that ARE the video.

In order to "rip" these files you need software that can read through the .vob files to extract the MPEG2 files.

Any commercial video editing Software such as Pinnacle, VideoStudio, Vegas etc can easily do this.

You may also have either the Nero suite on your computer or even the Roxio suite which both come with video editing apps and they can do it too.

Otherwise, search for DVD rippers but you have already been given the one that is most common.

Ditto Mark W's sentiments on Copyright.
