    Default camera questions

I'm not sure if there's been a thread about this before, but here goes...

I'm looking for a good camera (for the price) with a budget of $300. I'm interested in shooting short films and things of that nature. Does anyone know of something that has fairly decent quality and has pretty good performance in general?

I would go for a DV tape camera.

Try and find one with a mic in.

Do you, by any chance, know of a specific model?

No sorry - if it were me I would look at some sony cameras - but I have sony tatooed on my soul so dont read too much into that.

The mic in may be the hard bit but it is often something people want.

I see the Canon MD 216 has a mic socket and is mini dv and is coming in around 160, so you would have some money remaining to purchase a bag, a spare battery and maybe a cheap tripod. There is also a Canon MD 205 with a smaller zoom and it comes in at 150, it is also mini dv and it too has a microphone socket. Check out Jessops, Currys or Argos' websites to see if they have either in stock.

Thanks Nikosony. If I raised my budget to the 400 mark, would there be more options. I guess most camcorders in this range are the same. I had my eye on the JVC GRD850, but it doesn't have a mic jack.
