Default Black screen problem in Vegas 9

Okay... When my video was completed, I playtested it in WMP... But at all the parts where the video is fast-forwarding the screen just turns black. Sound is there and all, but no video during the parts with increased speed...

And it all works great when previewing it in the timeline thingie...

    Any help?

What is the source of the video you are editing? I ask cos editing found video like divx files and other compressed formats can cause problems like this.

Now I am a total noob at these things^^ So I have no idea what divx and that stuff is... But it is .MP4 files that I converted from some .MKV files...

Did the original files some from a camera? I suspect not as they were in the mkv wrapper.

If you are editing d loaded video problems such as this are common due to faulty media. Try converting again.

Hmm... I don't really think converting them again would help... I am using a total of 50 converted clips in my video, and all of them get that problem when they are sped up... But if it is something wrong with these "divx" Thingies you mentioned... Why do they work flawlessly in that video preview timeline thing then?

Same reason the xmas fairy wears stockings.

Dodgy media - dodgy results. Highly compressed files are very sensitive to errors and these often occur in torrented material.

So I am screwed then? Not anyway to magically do something that fixes it all?

All i can suggest is ensure that the s ware is fully updated - including codecs - faling any joy - try a different editor, and / or convert to a different format.

Divx, xvid, mp4 ( not an exhaustive list ) are delivery codecs and are not intended to be edited.

It is amusing to note that HDV is a flavour of MP4.

    Yay, Problem solved...

I found out that the files that caused the problem was the AVI files in the video... not the MP4
So I converted the AVI files to MP4 and then it all worked flawlessly... Thank you for trying to help me, even if it was in vain

I bet the offending failes were divx / xvid - same issue I suggested above.
