Thread: Light & Dark issues...

  1. Default Light & Dark issues...

Hi folks! Name is Craig and I'm brand-new to the forum... This is a GREAT resource, btw!

I am editing my wedding video with Sony Vegas 9.0b from the DV tape my Sony DCR-HC28 produced, and have run into something that has made me scratch my head. While it's not a show-stopper, I have to ask.

My bride and I were standing at the altar (of course) where there is an overhead skylight. Her dress looks BRILLIANT, but our guests in the background do not.

So, here are my two questions:

    1. Is there any way to darken the brilliant whites while lightening the darker areas of a frame?

    2. Should I open each clip in the Trimmer and edit each individually before adding to the Timeline, or add/edit the timeline and then edit the clip as a whole?

Sorry - total n00b here. lol

    Cheers,
    Craig (linksinachain)

Yes - you can make small adjustment but drastic changes will add noise and weird colour effects.

Check this fine tut wot I wrote - Digital Video Editing Guides: Digital Director - features - Sprucing Up Your Video - Playing with Curves in Vegas

This is a very powerful tool and I reccomend you play with it lots.

That's a great tutorial Mark, thanks!

I have played with the effect a little and you're right, it is a powerful tool. Now, to remember and only use it for good...

    Cheers,
    Craig
