    Default sony DCR-HC52E video capture problems

    Hi

    i have just purchased a sony mini dv handycam the model is DCR-HC52E

    it did not come with any standard hardware for my apple powerbook g4. i have firewire cable that fits both computer and camera but computer is not recognizing either

    i was just wondering if anyone knows where to download video capture software for this camera or if anyone knows how to make the computer recognize the the camera is plugged in

    Sounds like the cam or mac has a fault - try on another computer. Capture via imovie.

    yes i have been told to capture via imovie. but dont have imovie.
    do you know where to download it for free from

    I presume you can find it on the mac website - but i bet it isnt free....

    Wondows movie maker IS free, ( same for windows) so you never know...

    You sure you dont have it as it is inluded as part of the the mac os ?

    A G4 Powerbook and it doesn't have iMovie? Did you buy it second hand or new? If you bought it new, then it should have a number of Apple programs already installed on it including iMovie. The only standard 'hardware' you get with camcorders now is a spare battery, a battery charger/mains adaptor, maybe a usb cable and an av cable if you are lucky. Search the hard disk and see if you can locate iMovie or a folder with Apple apps inside it, can't remember what it was called on a G4.
