Thread: Adjusting light intensity

    Smile Adjusting light intensity

I use a canon 3ccd digital video camcorder XM1 PAL to record and Pinnacle Studio Ultimate to capture and edit Business lectures. Usually there is no problem with the level of light intensity as the camera compensates and if necessary I can adjust brightness and contrast using video effects.

However on the last occasion the speaker stood under a room spotlight and his face has come out as a white blur. The usual adjustments affect the whole frame.

Anybody know of a technique where I can just "crop" the speakers head only and adjust brightness?

    Cannot be corrected that way.
Overexposed, burned out areas of a picture contain zero information so nothing can be done.

Forget auto exposure - it is a curse and often causes probs like this. Use manual exposre and or spot metering ( if xl1 does spot metering).

I am sure it has zebras to help you set exposure properly.
