Thread: Can Vegas Capture like iMovie?

Default Can Vegas Capture like iMovie?

Forgive the n00bism, as I'm used to more consumer based video editing.

I'm hoping to find out how to capture video in Vegas like iMovie does... In that in iMovie I can set my camcorder to start capture and it will create several different clips based on my raw footage record breaks. I'm wondering if there's such a function with Vegas. As of now, in Vegas, I start to capture but it creates one long clip, whereas it would be nice if it created several based on scene changes.

Once again forvie my beginner question, but I'm having the damndest time finding any info on this.

    Thanks in adv
    Tim

    Hi TimW,
When you're in the capture programe, go to Options | Preferences, then the Capture tab. The first option is "Enable DV scene detection" - this needs to be checked (ticked).

Scene detection is dependent soley upon jumps in the timecode on your footage (it doesn't analyse the content - only when the camcorder is switched in and out of "record"). It is important therefor to ensure that you have set the time/date on your camcorder in the first place. Some people recommend "blacking" a tape before using - that is recording the whole tape with the lens cap on, just to ensure there is a continuous time code.
