Default Editing my movie on DVD.

I have a movie on DVD that I created connecting my camcorder to DVD recorder.
I would like to edit this movie by copying it to computer, making it shorter, adding music from CDs, my comments and titles. The final product should be edited movie on DVD that I can play in a DVD player.
How can I do it? I have laptop with Windows XP Professional and CD/DVD burner and no movie editing software installed, except Movie Maker that comes with Windows. Will Movie Maker do the job or I need something more sophisticated, something like
    Adobe Premier Elements 7?
    What would you recommend ?

    Thanks. Lev.

If you still have the original footage (mini tape) then use the Windows Movie Maker to capture from your camcorder, then do your edits etc. If you only have the DVD you previously burned to work with then you must rip the VOB files (DVD files) to your hard drive, then convert them to DV AVI and then do your edits. There are numerous "how -to" instructional post located on this site that will further walk you you through these processes as well as suggested software you must secure to accomplish these items.

Thank you for your quick response.
I have e subdirectories on my DVD:
the files in these 2 subdirectories are:

Can I just copy them to hard drive or only copy VOB filesto hard drive?
Then use Ripper software to convert VOB fiels to the files that are suitable for editing?
Would you recommend Xiklisoft DVD Ripper or another sofware?
You mentioned that I need to convert VOB fiels to AVI files?

Some Ripper software have a few options: to convert VOB files to MPEG, AVI, DivX, XviD, ASF, WMV, AVI, etc. Is AVI format the best for editiong?
Will I be able to place an edited movie back to DVD and play it in a DVD player?

    Thanks. Lev.

My movie on DVD is not copy protected. It is my own movie that I moved from camcorder,
but as I said in my initial posting, it is a 'rough draft'. I would like to edit it by cutting it, adding music from CDs, comments, titles etc. Since I have Windows XP Professional on my computer, I need to use a ripper software that converts VOB files into AVI files. Correct?
Then use one of the editing softwares to edit the AVI files, convert them back to VOB format and burn DVD. Correct? Is Movie maker sophisticated enough to copy music from CDs to some paricular parts of the movie, add comments, titles, etc. or you would recomment to use another editing software?
    Thanks. LEv.

Correct once you convert your VOB files to DV AVI , you put them on the timeline in Movie Maker, and edit them, also it appears according to the help files that you can import CD music in Movie Maker. Once you have your footage edited etc you will then encode to MPEG, then, author it and burn to DVD thus your VOB files are created.

Thank you. Are you positive that Movie Maker can do the job? I want to place music to some paricular parts of the movie from CDs, also add comments, titles, etc.
What about other software editing packages, like Adobe Premiere? Will it be a better choice?

    Thanks. Lev.

Here is an excerpt from the help files in MovieMakerregading importing music from a CD "
    Importing existing digital media files

You can import existing digital media files that are supported by Windows Movie Maker to use for your project. The files you can import might be stored on and imported from your hard disk on your computer, a shared network location, a CD, or on removable media. When importing files in Windows Movie Maker, you can import one file or multiple files at one time.

I can tell you that Movie Maker is suffice for what you want, you don't need all the "bells and Whistles" that Adobe Premeire has to accomplish what you want to do. But it is a great peice ofsoftware to really get into for editing.

Does Movie Maker allow to place a song say from minute 5 of the movie to minute 10, to make sound of the song loud, then less loud and simulteneously add comments through the microphone?
Is it possible to also divide the movie into chapters and create a lablel for each chapter like we see in a professional DVD?

    Thanks. Lev.
