Default EASY CAP USB video capture device - any good?

I've been given the task of transferring 3 VHS videos to DVD.

They are home videos which were in turn produced from some old family cine footage about 8 years ago.

This will be a one off task and I basically just want to get each video captured onto my HD to edit at my leisure when time permits, but need to capture them before everyone on the family gets rid of their video players!

Obviously I don't want to splash out on some expensive video capture cards etc. for a one off job, but Ebay seems to be teeming with an inexpensive device called "EASY CAP". I'll be running it on Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Has anyone had any experience of this device whether good or bad before I decide to get one or not?

    Regards

As requested here's some advice about capture cards - have a look at Technical Secrets they talk about cine film a lot but its the same priniciple if its vhs video.

My main question to you was you said you had them transferred from cine film to vhs 8 years ago.

I have a similiar situation. But I;m at the cine film stage. Firstly for you I suggest that if you still have the cine film then get them re- transferred to DVD or AVI clips for editing/ Otherwise you are going down 2 generations. Consider vhs is only 240 lines of resolution. eg dont go cine to dvd then vhs to dvd

My situation. Can you tell me who you originally used to get the cine films transferred. I have had some of them done by this company Home Cine to DVD www.cine-to-dvd-transfer.co.uk but I'm looking for a cheaper company. They are good at 1 per minute of film but I have hours and hours.

All the CHEAP ones i looked at are too cheap and just video the projected image from a screen

Hope i've helped you and hopefully you can remember who you used
