Default Help Please - Poor MiniDV Video download quality

I have videoed some precious stones in a light box which look great on the camera viewer but when I downlood it to my laptop (using an old firewaire card and windows media) the video looks grey and dull, stone has lost its sparkle. Any ideas, new firewire card, use another software, try a different PC? Many thanks -Tommy

OUCH - shooting AT a light box. That is a sure fire recipie for problems.

I am guessing you are shooting in auto? ? ? What the camera will do is ramp the exposure down cos of the bright b light making the stones under exposed.

Try setting the exposure manually, and shoot from the side - not top down.

I don't think you ever see video on a computer in it's true colors, can you use your camera as a link to a TV so you see what you are editing, or just make a test DVD and view it on a TV that way you will know if you have a problem, can't see how it could be firewire,
