Thread: workstation or gaming graphic card for video editing?

Default workstation or gaming graphic card for video editing?

    Hi everybody.

I read a lot of info about that but can't seem to find an answer. I am interested in video editing (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Sony Vegas and other) and was wondering whether investing in a professional (workstation) card will accelerate the rendering process in the above programs? I know that a workstation card greatly improves wireframe editing in CAD programs, and that is good since I deal with 3DS Max too, but what about High definition video editing/ rendering? At the moment I am torn between ATI Radeon HD 4850, ATI FireGL 5600 and some other alternatives...
Also- when it comes to video editing software (rendering scenes) is the CPU still much more important than the GPU or a FireGL will make a big difference when rendering?

    Any suggestions?
Thank you and have a nice evening.

The GPU is irrelevant for video editing.

I hope that editors do begin to shove maths at the GPU - I suspect we may see this implimented on fully freatured editors soon.

A pokey cpu and lots of drive space on at least 2 drives is important.

Thank you very much for the help guys and really sorry for the delay in my response. In this case I will invest much more in the CPU ( I actually chose already Intel Q9550 for my new CPU). Really too bad that the GPU stays barely used in Premiere- I was mislead by the "Accelerate GPU effects" option in the program.
Thanks once again and have a good night.

    Julian.
