Default sony vegas + sound forge edit 5.1

    Hey guys!

Im currently in the middle of a project with Sony Vegas Pro 8.

The format i am using is the sony AVCHD (.m2ts)

The problem I am having is I would like to edit the 5.1 audio on the file using sound forge audio studio 9.0 to remove some unwanted talking but every time I try the "open in sound forge" option in vegas sound forge tells me .m2ts is an unsupported format.

I dont was to convert to mpeg-2 because I wanted to keep the AVCHD format intact.

Is there a better way of doing this? Maybe extract the audio from the video to edit then rejoin?

According to Sony Creative Software - Sound Forge 9 - Sound Forge 9 vs. Audio Studio Sound Forge Audio Studio only handles stereo, not multichannel.
If you want to edit it in stereo in SF then simply render the file in Vegas, choosing one of the audio formats and import that into SF.
