    Default Tutorial on encoding for YouTube high quality - feedback requested

    I just finished writing this tutorial on how to encode your videos for YouTube's new high quality option. I was hoping you would check it out and let me know what you think.

    My adivce on the sme subject boils down to.

    " to get the high option just upload at at least 1 mbit/sec wmv at native dv res "

    Appears to me you are just trying to get traffic to your site so the article isnt really that engaging and personally I would question much of your advice... It doesnt matter how you compress so long as it is a good quality - it can be 264 / divx / wmv / and so on. Personally I find h264 encoding on super c to be rather lacklustre, but I only flirted with it.

    maybe I am not hte target audience?

    Hey there, I followed your instructions except i'm using Adobe Premiere Pro.
    It's my first time actually uploading something onto youtube, and it turned out like this:
    YouTube - Sequence 01
    Anyone have any idea as to why?
    It's meant to be a smooth clip of 2 wolves dancing in a game...

    I downloaded MPEG_Streamclip1.2 from Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac and Windows and I use it with the following settings to get the HQ playback option on my videos on YT.

    FILE->Export to MPEG4

    Compression->H.264

    Quality->Move the slider to 100%

    Limit Data Rate to->2500kbps (minimum)

    Sound-> MPEG4/Stereo/Auto/256kbps

    Frame Size->640 x 360

    Field Dominance->Lower Field First (I don't see any difference in using one or the other)

    Frame Rate->25fps or 30fps

    Deinterlace Video (Ticked)

    Click on the Adjustments button and in the Watermark box type something like a copyright notice or a contact email address.

    Then click on the Make MP4 button.

    *********

    Download QuickTimeAlt181 first and install it as it needs to be on your computer before you can use Streamclip.

    Now that YouTube is encoding to 720p HD, I have posted a new guide on how to best convert your videos. Please check it out and let me know how it goes.

    If anyone else today says tou tube is ' HD ' I will kill myself - and the person next to me.

    It is just better - it is not HD.

    Excellent piece on what HD is and isnt.

    PreGameLobby - Don’t believe the low bit-rate ‘HD’ lie

    ...but presumably not in that order.....

    Anyway, as it's now today, and you been posting throughout, I'm guessing no-one else did say YT is HD. I'll sleep better knowing you're still with us

    Videorpo - your advice is not really that good and very long.

    Fact - you tube HD is 2 mbit per sec ( ish).

    Fact - no point in up loading at much higher bit rate ( certainly not the 8 you suggest).

    If you want you tube ' hd ' just render to 720p and u load a 3 mbit wmv.

    You just said in a previous post that it is "It is just better - it is not HD." Last time I checked 720p qualifies as "HD"

    "Fact - no point in up loading at much higher bit rate ( certainly not the 8 you suggest)."

    Unless you can get around the reencode by YouTube, it IS better to upload the highest quality source that you have. Uploading a low bitrate source to then be reencoded to a low bitrate encode will yield a lower quality output since the encoder has less data to work with.

    "your advice is not really that good and very long." - Thanks for the highly constructive criticism. Next time I decide to post something, I will be sure to keep it short and make it "good" so that some miserable bloke on some forum doesn't have to waste time reading it to give him more time to insult other people amd share such detailed and expert advice like "If you want you tube ' hd ' just render to 720p and u load a 3 mbit wmv."

    Maybe you should do some research and offer some better advice instead of spreading your negative bs
