    Default Mini DV v HD HDD/SD

    I'm a newbie and an amateur!

    I own a JVC Mini DV camcorder, and with Pinnacle 11-12 Ultimate have produced standard home videos etc;

    I have been thinking about buying a HD camcorder with either or both HDD and SDHC recording.

    I do not have a blue ray player but have a HD TV.

    Does anyone know if the quality of video, when edited and burnt onto DVD, will be of a noticeable difference? (Is it worth buying a new camcorder?)

    What are the pros and cons of HD and SDHC formats?

    Thanks John

    hd cam > hd editing > blue ray > hd tv : worth it
    if one of those is less than hd, it's not worth it cause it would be the same as if u're on sd

    Given that I do not have all HD (no Blue Ray), would the quality be any better by comparison if the editing was done in "HD" but burnt to normal DVD?

    Gvein ALL other things being the same same shooting in HDV then down converting to SD will give slightly better results than shooting in SD, BUT that judgement assumes the same cam.

    The quality of the camera and it's component parts has a much greater impact on the final output.

    I am also assuming down convert from a 'proper' HDV cam, one that takes tapes. For boring teccy reasons the video from H drive cams is more highly (much) compressed thus the quality is reduced.

    To get the best from the HDV fromat you should think about spending more on a tape based camera.

    Personally, I think real cameras use tape. The files from h drive cams are shite to edit on - look around the forum and you will see lots of probs.

    Thanks for your advice, I've looked at other comments regarding HD v SD. Looks like I'm better off getting another "tape" camcorder. I only want to use it for family stuff, can you recommend a camcorder that would cost in the region of 4-500.

    Thanks John
