Default Is there a way to choose where the Temporary Files are put?

I have limited hard drive space on left on my computer so I bought a 250 gig extrenal usb 2.0 drive.

Today when I tried to export the entire project to my internal hard drive I got video that freezes (usually at the point of a transition or fade). Would it help if I could set the temporary files to be formed on the 250 gig external?

Or is the only space saver here to set the preview file location to the external - perhaps the preview acts as the temp files?
The tale of my death has been greatly exagerated

    Default

The preview files I always save in a folder within the particular premier project folder along with everything else relating to that project.

Basically save everything premier related onto your external drive - as long as its fast enough you shouldnt have any problems.
