Thread: Panasonic NV-GS120, any good?

  1. #1

    Default Panasonic NV-GS120, any good?

I currently have a battered Sony digital 8 camera, its on its last legs, so I want to get a replacement.

I want it to be pretty small because I might well get a custom water housing for it too, Ideally I want 3 chips and analogue-in (might also rig up a water proof bullet camera).

I'm looking at the Panasonic NV-GS120 and NV-GS200, has anyone got one of these? if so, how do they cope with low light? because I'll be filming in all sorts of weather conditions and I don't want to waste my time.
Is it worth paying the extra for the NV-GS200? I haven't used a camera with a manual focus ring, is it really that much better than using the jog dial?
Is it worth getting a cheaper (Canon MV700i) analogue-in model aswell for the bullet cam?

So many questions, sorry about that, but there's only so much a page of spec's can tell you, hopefully someone has had some first hand experience of these cameras.

If anyone gets this far, Cheers.

I just had a look and I can get an NV-GS120 online for 422.99! how cheaps that!

I love manual focus rings... I like em for the artsy shots, i dont exactly like them to shoot home videos or what ever.

I think I'll get the GS-120, I don't think I need a manual focus ring, probably wouldn't use it, and size is a bigger issue for my purposes.
    Cheers fof the input.

So, did you end up getting the GS-120? If so, what do you think of it? Do you have any video clips that you would like to share?

Well, I very nearly bought it, but I thought I better check my balance first and I got a nasty surprise. Last months rent hadn't been taken out on time so I was more overdrawn than I thought, and I've had other priorities since then.

I'm definitely going to get one though, I think it'll have to wait until Christmas unfortunately, but I've got some interesting plans for water cam' set-ups for when I finally get it, so I'll post some video when I get round to shooting some.
