    Default Panasonic NV-GS5 and Vista

I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a Panasonic NV-GS5 MiniDV camera. I have tried plugging it into both an XP machine and my new Vista machine but for some reason it cannot be recongised. Panasonic are telling me they do not have Vista drivers for this machine.

Is there a generic driver that I could use to connect the Camera to my Pc ? or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my footage from the DV tape to my pc easily.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using a USB or Firewire cable to connect the Panasonic to the computer? You should only use Firewire.

I have tried both but spent the most time trying to get it going using firewire.

The firewire cable could be faulty, can you try another firewire cable. Also one of the connections could be faulty either on the camcorder or on your computer. On the XP computer go into Control Panel->System->click on the Hardware tab->click on Device Manager button and check to see if IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers is listed.
