importing avi

HELP...
i'm trying to import an avi file into After Effects 5.5 and i am gettin an error message " no such AVI compressor. (-2147205007) (53 :: 33)".
i really need to import this to my project can someone please help me!!

Seeing as no-one's posted...

Just a stab in the dark, but why doen't you try converting to a less lossy codec? Without knowing any details about your file, I'd hazard a guess that it's encoded with a funcky codec.
