I have an old CRT monitor and I'm trying to color correct (brighter) an HD recording, with Edius Pro 4. The lighting is very minimal.
I tried to set my monitor to correct color standards, but of course, it looks much darker on other monitors.
What is the conventional wisdom on what to do here? I want the video to be available to download and viewed on computers. How does one best color their video with the general population's monitors in mind, without sacrificing the quality of the video? Do I need to use a certain monitor or calibrate it a certain way?
In a related question, it seems like any brightening or adding of contrast just feels wrong to me. I'm no pro at this, but at first glance, you'd like a nice sharp bright picture, but is it the general consensus that you're sacrificing the fine details of what was originally shot if you "correct" the image at all? It's quite frustrating for a wannabe perfectionist who knows nothing. Thanks for reading.
