Thread: Preview is slow when video is in reverse in Vegas

    Default Preview is slow when video is in reverse in Vegas

    I can play a preview at full speed, but when I reverse the video it suddenly slows to a crawl. What is causing this?

    We need to know just HOW you are achieving Reverse and Previewing:

    * Right Click > Reverse?

    * JKL keys and reverse on the J key?

    * Inserting a Velocity Envelope?

    * Using Scrubbing?

    From the what you say I'd be going with a reverse envelope NOT set correctly. Meaning NOT -100%

    I wasn't aware there were so many ways. I've been using Right Click > Reverse. I've used Velocity Envelope at -100% too and it's still the same result. I don't know how to access the other two ways you mentioned since I'm still new to the program.

    I notice also that videos also playback slowly when I first load them, but if I move it down to another track it previews at normal speed. This doesn't make any difference for reversing however.

    Hope this helps somehow

    Bizarre!

    OK, if you get success on another track, try deleting the "issue" track, re-place it and try again. There is something on that track that IS messing with you.

    Ah, Mark! Now I wanna see a screen grab of that track header . . . it was your Media question . . I wanna see IF there is a compositing thingie in there. Maybe just maybe something IS putting the brakes on.

    But I've been wrong B4!

    Worng? You? I refuse to believe it sir!

    I think you may have it there - a compositing thing... I still have a quid on it being some weird source video.

    OK .. .but then why should the same Media work on a different track?

    That's my same thought. I've been using clips form youtube that I convert to AVI. I've tried an AVI rip of a dvd as well and it's still the same result.

    What can I do about these compositing issues? I'm new to videos still so am lost what that means :p

    Also, it isn't just because of processing power is it? I mean, it's just essentially playing the frames the other away around so I can't imagine that that takes so much cpu(but I could be wrong ) My pc's 1.7ghz with an Nvidia MX 2 card, 128mb ram, incase this is of any relevance, though I don't think my pcs to week to handle this...

    "128mb ram" - eh? Is this your full system RAM?
