Thread: PPro CS3 captures in interlaced only?

  1. #1

Default PPro CS3 captures in interlaced only?

...or can this be changed to progessive?

What are you trying to capture from?
If, for example, miniDV, and the device only supports interlaced mode, or the footage was shot in interlaced mode, then surely you will capture interlaced?

Not too big an issue, shooting interlaced does have it's advantages

Thanks for the replay again buddy

Im capturing from MiniDV. Here is an extract from the manual:

    25p Mode

Records in 25 fps progressive mode and outputs signals converted intp 50fps interlace
The bit in bold has me stumped...at college I was taught Interlaced gives a 'filmy' look and has its disadvatages?

I think what it means is:

Shoots 25 FRAMES per second (Progressive)

Outputs 50 FIELDS per second (Interlaced)

50 FIELDS a second (interlaced) is the same as 25 FRAMES a second (interlaced), which is PAL.

Which does sound wierd, but I do understand it (I think) but not the motives as to why you would want it (except cost cuting maybe?)

The smooth deinterlace trick I linked would probably have no effect on this camera because that trick relies on the fact that if shooting in interlaced (2 FIELDS per FRAME), each FRAME is shot at different times. If you are shooting progressive and it is later split into interlaced though, this would not be the case I would think.

Not sure about the interlaced giving it a filmy look. Maybe, but AFAIK it being 24 FRAMES a second was more of a cue to the brain.
