    Default Failed Graphics

Hi, I'm trying to make better movies.

    I use a Sony DCR TRV33E to shoot ,
    Firewire to transport to PC
    With Windows XP professional,
    2.00 GHz Intel Pentium Processor
    768MB RAM
110 MB Free hard drive space. I have two hard drives.
I use Nero 6 for capture, edit and burn.

    I have the following concerns;

    1. Sometimes I drop frames when capturing, resulting in jerky footage.

    2. When I view on full screen the quality deteriorates dramatically.

    3. When I add text effects, (scrolling, fade in-out etc) they do not burn reliably. There is always a problem.

I have read a lot of material on VEF but cannot seem to solve the above.

    Advise, tips, gratefully accepted.

    Thanks

Can you just confirm that you are using firewire to capture?

    Thank you.

As it turns out it's just USB. I understood Sony used i-link IEEE 1394 as standard. The camera is less than a year old and was expensive.

I'm not sure it's compatable with i-link. If it is, does this mean I need to install a card as well?

If it's not compatable, do I need to upgrade?

Get yourself a cheap firewire card and capture through this.

Just as well I have this weekend to myself...

I installed card which hardware update wizard recognised and then sought to install the appropriate driver, but had great difficulty. I checked device manager which showed the hardware was not configured properly. This was illustrated by the IEEE 1394 Controller showing up but with an exclamation mark inside a yellow circle attached.

I then went to Microsoft site knowledgebase and read myself blind. It told me
that I may not be able to get the firewire port to work because it's not compatable and to try installing the driver stack from Windows98. Huh?

You are told all drivers are in place with XP and that they would install automatically.

    Anyone been here before?

Yes, windows has native support for OHCI firewire cards. All I can do is suggest you shut down, check you've inserted the card properly and boot.

Yes, I took it out, changed slots and rebooted. same problem arose.

New Hardware Wizard tells me I'm missing a file, enum 1394.sys. I'm trying to locate and download it from somewhere.

    it goes in WINDOWS\system32\drivers\enum1394.sys
