Hello all, I'm looking for info about video capture software/hardware for use with Premiere CS3.
I need to record screencaptures of the Windows desktop and also within some video games. There seem to be a lot of options out there for doing these tasks, and I've experimented with quite a few (FRAPs, Captivate 2, VMWare movie capture, just about every open source option, etc.)
However, problems often arise when importing the video into Premiere CS3. Depending on the software, different issues arise. Some videos don't import well or at all. In other cases, the quality of the exported video is sub-par.
From experience so far, I think the issue here is lossy codecs used by the screencapture software I've tried so far. I currently find myself spending an extraordinary about of time and hard drive space converting these to lossless formats (using VirtualDub) before importing them into Premiere.
So I thought I'd put it to the experts out there. What are your favorite setups for capturing screencasts for Premeire editing? Are there hardware options available that are worth exploring? I've spent a ton of time looking into this, but haven't been very successfull. All suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
