Default Are we stuck at 60min for miniDV

or is there some way to get 80min or 90min of video recorded? Do all camcorders support more than 60min or do i need to look for some particular feature before i can do it?

    Thanks very much,
    Mike

This subject came up on the forum a few weeks ago, apparently if you go onto Sony's UK website you will see an 80 minute Mini DV tape (DVM80PR). So far I haven't seen them on sale in any of the shops. They also have a 63 minute HDV tape (DVM63HDV) if anyone is interested.

Dont bother buying tapes. Just make sure your camera has LP (Long Play) mode, Admittedly this does decrease the quality ever so slightly, but you get another half hour of video or so (Not totally sure)!

I've never used LP mode and I think I remember reading it has caused problems for other forum members in the past when trying to capture. Some NLE's threw a wobbler. I prefer to stick with SP and get 20 minutes more shooting in the highest quality rather than 30 minutes more in LP mode.

Mmm, Its a Catch 22 situation. Money VS slight quality loss. And to be fair, m081072 could test it before they use it for an "offical" video. Its jsut my 2p

Theoretically, it shouldn't reduce quality at all; DV uses a constant bitrate and therefore LP and SP should surely have the same quality? Rather the problem with LP is the compatibility issue of playing back tapes recorded in LP on one machine in another.
