Thread: archiving captured analogue video

    Default archiving captured analogue video

    Hi

I'm new to digital video editing. I plan to capture analogue video from a VHS machine and from a camcorder using a Kworld DVD maker. Once on the hard disc I want to save the digital video in a form which can be reloaded onto the hard disc for further editing in the future i.e. archive it. I can't transfer it to my digital camcorder as it doesn't have a 'video in' socket. Can I save it on DVD and reload it later to the hard disc? I hear this will result in a loss of quality but will it when the quality was only VHS in the first place? Would VCD or divX be a better idea? Inexpensive solutions only please!

Either get another internal hard drive, the largest you can afford or get an external hard drive again the largest you can afford and store your videos there.

    Default thanks

Thanks for this. In the recent past I would have thought this too expensive for my modest means but I now realise how much cheaper hard discs are and the advantages of using them for archiving.

With capacity going up and prices coming down, it would be a good time now to think about either another internal hard drive or an external model on USB.
