    Default Virtual Dub CODECs ?

Im trying ti figure out what the best CODEC is when trying to capture
video from a VHS. I see the codecs in there. but I dont see the ones
that are familuar to me like Xvids, or Divx. Also would like to know the
best codec for audio aswell. How do I install codec`s in virtualDub
so they will show up in the list of codec. I have went through the
RGB. YUY. and all that. Maybe I just dont have the codec installed corectly
on my michine. Any help from you wizards would be great.

well the best codec to capture from is always a lossless one. These tend to take up a hell of a lot of drive space though. There's the throughput as well. is your drive quick enough?

I tend to capture to as high a resolution as i can in as high an xvid bitrate as i can. NOT lossless, technically, but with bitrates so high (ain't captured anything for ages, but i recall allowing for 20mbit/sec, and it NEVER needed that high a bitrate for anything) it's practically lossless.

You DO need a meaty cpu for that though.

Always try to capture to a higher resolution than you need to, this way you can filter, crop, etc, and ouptut the final product to your desired resolution.

Install the xvid codec, get IUvcr and you're set. I don't like Vdub for capture, but it's nice for filtering etc.
