Default JVC DV camera & Windows XP

I have a JVC DV camera (GR-D31EK) & Windows XP. I a, using a Swann firewire card. The computer says the firewire card is working properly and the camera is recognised and has machine control. However, U can see no picture when I try to capture from the camera. My old windows 98SE system saw the camera automatically. Also, in XP, when I first play the camera with machine control, the computer restarts. Can asnyone give me guidance on how to make this camera & computer work?

Are you using the software that JVC supplies? If so you could try it with windows movie maker if you haven't already. Is the software set to show a preview of the capture? I'm no expert and luckily my JVC seems to be working ok with XP. Sorry I can't be of anymore help but at least you know people are reading your question! Good luck with it.

Yes, I've tried it wit Movie Maker - same problem. Also with Pinnacle software. I have had the computer supplier with me for fours hours today and we could find no solution to the black screen with no picture, or the fact the computer restarts when the tape is put into play. I really would like to get to the cause of this one.
