Thread: 3D Amination - camera in space?

  1. Default 3D Amination - camera in space?

    I am wondering about creating 3D models to make my videos a bit more stylish.

    At the moment I am pondering what software to buy.
    At present I have:

    * Final Cut Pro 5
    * Adobe Photoshop CS2 (thinking of CS3 extended)

    A few things that look good are:

    * Strata 3D plug-ins
    * Adobe After effects

    Does anyone have an opinion on what software is the best for creating and animating 3D images. I'd like to create a 3D model of a car (for example) and have the camera zoom and spin around it. Thats the kind of thing I'd like to do.

    Any ideas?

    After Effects is a compositting tool. It does not allow you to build 3d models and animate them. You'll need somethign like Laya for that. Once you render out your sequence in Maya (say) you bring it into AE to composit into your video footage you shot.

    I priced Maya at $288. Is this the one you're talking about? ("Autodesk maya 2008 complete)?
    If so , its cheaper than Strata 3D plugh-ins for Photoshop.

    Is Maya the tool that a majority of TV stations/video companies use?

    On the Autodesk website it was talking about 3Ds Max. This is priced at $3500 which is more like the price I would have expected.

    I'm not familiar with Maya. It's just the first d modelling s/w name I thought of. Not recommending it but I do know it;s powerful and would be VERY suprised to find it for only a few hundred pounds. Add a nought and you're nearer the figure I thought it was.

    How much did you pay for MAX?

    Also, with a lot of things I see that were designed with 3Ds Max, other programs have been used too like Adobe After Effects, Combustion etc etc.
    This makes it really confusing for me because I don't know what Max can do by itself.
    Its really hard for me to go ahead and purchase because of this reason.

    Any comments?

    ps: Lynda.com is very good. I have been enjoying their Final Cut training!
